RUC MON CAVE 2 DAYS/1 NIGHT

The Ruc Mon Cave Expedition is for those who want to take on the majestic Ruc Mon challenge. Ruc Mon Cave, discovered in early 2017, is located on the border of Viet Nam and Laos, and it seems so massive that it is impossible for visitors to go all the way through it. Not only having two separate, huge side entrances with both dry and wet systems but also the geodiversity and various geologies that make the Ruc Mon cave make a big difference. Come and join us in this unique and unforgettable experience. You will definitely gain a sense of accomplishment when you complete this challenge!

• 1 day hiking with 7 km through minority villages, forests, and mountains, 350 m climbing cliffs, and more than 60 m climbing experience with harnesses
• Getting to know the incredibly diverse flora and lifestyle of the local minority in Hoa Son village
• Exploring the giant stalactites and swimming up to 3 km inside the cave (first day)
• Conquering the layers of minerals and fossils formed millions of years ago from the 1st to the 4th floor (average height: 40–400 m). 
• Enjoying the local BBQ foods of the indigenous minority people.
• Night camping at the massive open entrance

10:30- 11:30 am:The group will stop at Hoa Son village, then cross the village of the Chut ethnic group

11:30–1:00 pm: After following the small trail along the river to reach the entrance of Ruc Mon, a miles-long smelly BBQ will be awaiting you, prepared by the local minority chef. Meat and vegetable options are available upon request.

After having lunch, you are going to have 15–30 minutes to take a short break.

Timeline: flexible enough to be fixed to fit your schedule. 

DAY 1: Phong Nha, Hoa Son, and Ruc Mon Experience Indigenous Culture and Cave Exploration 07:30–8:30 am: You will be picked up around that time, then heading to the headquarter to make preparations. You are provided with almost everything needed to do the trek: a long-sleeve shirt, long socks, a refillable bottle of water, trekking sandals, safety gear...

1:30–4:30 pm: We start the journey to swim along the water (2km), then climb to different rock layers and admire the growth of huge limestone patches formed over millions of years. Conquer the dry system, which has three floors with countless layers of minerals, stalactites, etc.

After finishing exploring the massive dry system, you will be greeted with delicious cups of coffee and cakes thoughtfully prepared by our porter team.

Having dinner with local minority villager, listening to the real jungleman hunting stories, and cheering the homemade "happy water" with them are definitely unforgettable experiences that you will never forget. There are two options for setting up the tent:At the entrance or at the minority villagers home, depending on which one you are keen on and the weather condition. Single tents and double tents are available upon request!

DAY 2: Starting a new day at 7:30-8:00 am, we will prepare breakfast for you. There will be a sunny side up egg, bread, or noodles of your choice. After breakfast and packing. A 3-hour journey of walking through 6 kilometers of primeval forest is waiting for you.

11:00–1:30 pm: After following the small trail along the river to the Ruc mouth, a BBQ awaits you. Meat and vegetable options are available upon request. After lunch, you will have 15–30 minutes to take a short break.

1:30–2:30 pm:The group keeps following the current to reach the other side entrance by floating, swimming, and climbing. By the time that you exit from the entrance, hot coffee, tea, and cakes are served to give you the energy to do an hour of trekking back to the fishing point.

3:00–4:00 pm: The group starts trekking back to the ending point through some rivers and corn fields. 

4:15–5:15 pm: The car hits the road and takes the group back to Phong Nha town.

Don’t bring jewelry or any other valuable accessories!

Long sleeves and long pants are highly recommended due to the leeches and poison ivy on the way!

Cancellation policy: All logistics is prepared for your tour so no cancel for last minute booking. If a written cancellation request is received and acknowledged more than 7 days before tour departure, a fund refund of the service will be processed. If cancellation notice is received and acknowledged less than 7 days before the departure, there will be no refund.
